(12/6/04) — U.S. champion Johnny Weir was forced to withdraw from the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final Monday due to an injury to his right foot. The injury first occurred at the Cup of Russia in late November when he landed awkwardly at the exhibition. He stated he was only feeling at 65 percent when he competed at the 2004 Marshalls World Cup of Figure Skating on Dec. 3 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Dr. Roger Kruse, vice chair of the U.S. Figure Skating Sports Sciences and Medicine Committee, examined Weir after he competed at the Marshalls event and diagnosed him with a mild lisfranc (midfoot sprain) injury. Weir will be X-rayed this week to ensure there is no fracture or ligament instability.
